Habitat Creation & Restoration
At Habitat Vault, we are dedicated to establishing and enhancing diverse natural habitats that form the backbone of thriving ecosystems. With 14 habitat banks (and counting) already established across England, our efforts focus on a variety of habitat types including grassland, scrub, hedgerow, woodland, pond, and river environments. Each habitat bank is designed to support local wildlife and increase biodiversity, contributing to healthier, more resilient natural landscapes.

Voluntary Biodiversity Units
At BioLegacy by Habitat Vault, our mission is to provide opportunities for businesses and individuals to voluntarily contribute to environmental enhancement through the purchase of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) units. This innovative service extends the principles and rigor of the mandatory BNG marketplace to those who wish to go beyond compliance. Each unit represents a real, quantifiable improvement in biodiversity, supported by habitat creations that are as rigorous and robust as those required by law.

About our Business
Since its inception in 1972, the SHG Group has been at the forefront of environmental management, enhancing sites across the UK and Europe with a focus on preserving and augmenting biodiversity. For over fifty years, we have managed thousands of environmentally sensitive areas, consistently prioritising ecological integrity and sustainability.
In 2021, we expanded our environmental initiatives with the launch of Living Surface Co., an award-winning company specialising in the design, installation, and maintenance of living walls. Notably, one of our initial projects was a significant installation for the UN Climate Change Conference at COP26, showcasing our commitment to global environmental issues.
Building on this momentum, 2023 saw the introduction of Habitat Vault, our dedicated platform designed to connect landowners with organisations seeking to establish habitat banks. This initiative supports companies, particularly house builders, in acquiring Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) units to offset the impacts of their developments, ensuring alignment with the Environment Act 2021.
With the UK ranking in the bottom 10% globally for biodiversity, SHG Group is determined to drive change. Habitat Vault, and our latest venture, BioLegacy, are critical components of this mission. BioLegacy offers businesses and individuals the opportunity to participate directly in the restoration and enhancement of our biodiversity. This service enables clients to purchase voluntary BNG units, developed with the same rigour and oversight as those in the mandatory market, thereby contributing to the revitalisation of ecosystems and promoting sustainable environmental practices.
